Kintsugi is the art of repairing broken pottery by mending the areas of breakage with lacquer mixed with powdered gold; as a philosophy, it treats breakage and repair as part of the history of an object, rather than something to disguise. Similarly, these works stand for finding beauty in something that is flawed or imperfect, broken but also remade and repaired. It is hoped that in this small way, the artworks could lend a view of grace and hopefulness to our fragmented contemporary world.
